It’s easy to get focused on the gym and your workouts. It’s easy to get focused (and sometimes anal) about the food you use. But we have to realize that health is a combination of those factors plus your mental state. That’s what I want to touch on today.
Without the life balance you aren’t going to be happy, and that’s what life is really about. So think about this as you go about your day. How are your stress levels? I have found that working out and cardio can actually help with that. Let go of the things that are bugging you with life and relax. Think only about the moment. Live in that moment and just enjoy that you can lift X amount of weight or that you are able to walk/run at any speed. Lose yourself in the moment.
Second step, and this is one many of us neglect is sleep. Yes, you really are supposed to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Sleeping in on weekends can help to some degree to balance that out, but really it’s best to have regular sleep patterns. Whether you are an early bird or a night owl (wow, really avian here) you should have a set schedule to get the best sleep.
Third, relax. Find a hobby or something that you do just for fun. It could be gardening, it could be drag racing. What it is isn’t as important as you taking time for something that doesn’t have anything to do with income or bettering yourself, but just having a full life.
And last, take time to embrace those around you. Realize that life is a team sport and the players in your game are really what it is all about. Take time. Listen to your family and friends. Stop talking and really listen to your son/daughter/spouse. Listen and ask for more details on what is important in their lives. Be attentive and don’t fake this. In life you don’t often get do-overs.
Sorry if this seemed a bit off topic, but it’s all about you and your health.
