Skinny? and Ralph Lauren

by rob britt on October 27, 2009

The other day my youngest daughter came home and she was excited because someone had called her skinny. Skinny is about the last thing I would ever want her to be. Healthy is what I am aiming for. She works out at the gym at a furious rate on a regular basis and is a vegetarian of sorts, but it’s not hard to see where the obsession comes from. I recently came across this video that shows how make-up and photo retouching changes what models look like:

too skinny

too skinny

And we’ve all probably seen the latest brew ha ha regarding the Ralph Lauren photo shopped model Filippa Hamilton who was shrunk to unsightly proportions. Is this really what girls aspire to? I know most guys wouldn’t like it. I mean to be honest skinny women make for uncomfortable sex. no padding on sharp bony protrusions. yuck.

This is all about self image and more accurately self-esteem. The media puts these images of ‘perfection’ into the minds of the gullible and suddenly that is the norm that people aim for. It is just wrong.

Self-esteem is so important and young egos especially are so fragile. It’s important to make young girls especially realize how awful the images are, and to help them have better self esteem. I have a free (totally free) program that works to improve self esteem. Check it out and use it. And pass it on.
