I have been hearing a lot lately (and from multiple sources) that viruses have a tough time surviving in your body if your PH level is slightly to the alkaline side of the scale. Sources also say that cancer is slowed/stopped through the same alteration of the ph of your body.
What is PH exactly? PH is a scale of relative acidity or basicity of a solution. To make an analogy, I have to maintain my pool’s PH level for the chemicals to work optimally. Our bodies operate in the same way. There is an optimal PH level for our systems to function, and an optimal temperature level as well (for most of us 98.6 F)
Our bodies ‘normal’ PH level is around 7.4, which is slightly basic (more alkjaline than acidic) It is known that certain enzymes and other proteins become denatured (inactive) if they aren’t in the optimum ph range. This same denaturing is the simplified reasoning behind “adjusting” your PH levels to fight colds, flu and yes, even cancers.
I am not a doctor. Actually, not even close, but I know that simple remedies (old fashioned or even ‘old wife’s tales’) often are based in truth. (On the other hand snake oil is snake oil, now or a hundred years ago.)
So here’s the problem. Drug companies can’t make money on home remedies, and they control the FDA. So simple solutions (like vinegar for a sore throat, or baking soda to fight a cold) Simple solutions and the people who make them, are kept under the covers. They aren’t allowed to make any claims on healing properties.
So instead of letting a fever run its course, pharma wants to sell you a ’solution.’ Fevers happen because the body is trying to use heat to burn out infections. Unfortunately our internal thermostat doesn’t know when to stop, so we do need to control the fever to some extent.
Big Pharma would rather sell you a prescription than have you take a few teaspoons of baking soda three times a day for a week or two.
I’m certainly not telling you what to do, except that you should do some research and don’t believe all the hype you read, and for goodness sake don’t trust big businesses to make your medical decisions, big or small.
my two cents
